Metal Forming Products For more than 50 years, NI Industries, Inc. has been successful in moving metal into complex, final configurations with precision. It has been, and continues to be, regarded as a premier manufacturer for the defense industry and recognized as the only manufacturer of the large deep draw steel cartridge cases in the world. Our capabilities in metal forming are second to none, with the specialty in cold forming of steel, brass, and aluminum products in various shapes and forms to meet customers’ requirements while eliminating weld joints and many other secondary operations. Our technical staff also has in-depth knowledge and experience in hot forming of various materials including all grades of steel. Current infrastructure can be supplemented to meet customer needs. The Deep Draw process is utilized in the manufacture of most of the products at NI Industries. This is a process in which a sheet of metal undergoes a series of drawing operations upon application of thousands of tons of pressure onto the metal by hydraulic presses to create the desired shape without distorting the metal. Higher material properties are achieved through this process. A sample of the range of products manufactured includes: STEEL- 155MM AGS FOR DD(X), 5 INCH MK9, 105MM M148A1B1, 105MM M150B1, 105MM M115B1, 105MM M14B1, 76MM, 40MM MK3, 90MM M19B1, 90MM M108B1, 90MM M114A1, 90MMM200
BRASS 8INCH 55 MK1 MOD3, 8 INCH LWG, 105MM M14, 76MM, 120MM M109, 130MM, 6INCH 47, 3INCH 50
ALUMINUM INNER TUBE FOR M72 LAW, BLU-7A/B SHAPE-CHARGE BOMBLET, tube for bat (brilliant anti-tank system) | Thermal Treatment NI Industries, Inc. operates a molten salt austenitizing furnace designed for hardening of AISI 1030 carbon steel in accordance with AMS-H-6875 by processing the material through heat treating, quenching, and tempering to achieve the desired hardness rating. The hardened steel parts are then processed through rinsing and acid etching stages to prepare the surface for deposition of a zinc phosphate coating followed by application of a drawing lubricant. We welcome the opportunities to discuss your particular thermal treatment needs in utilizing the unique medium of molten salt. |
Zinc Plating NI Industries, Inc. operates a surface finishing system with a fully automated, computer-controlled zinc plating line that meets the requirements of ASTM B-633. Steel parts are processed through a series of electrolytic alkaline cleaning, rinsing and acid etching stages to prepare the surface for zinc plating. An alkaline zinc electroplating process is then used to deposit the zinc onto the steel substrate at thicknesses up to 1.0 mil. An olive drab green chromate conversion coating is then applied, which greatly enhances the corrosion resistance of the zinc plating. Finished steel parts subjected to salt spray testing in accordance with ASTM B-117 will exceed a 96-hour exposure with virtually no indication of corrosion. Other chromate conversion coating colors are available, depending upon the level of corrosion resistance required by our customers. |

Product Design and Enhancement Throughout our more than 50 years of history, NI has supported its domestic and foreign defense customers with innovative and cost effective solutions to meet their requirements. Our success has been built on the breadth of our experience in metal forming and the depth of the technical capabilities in our engineering and research staff. Our customers have benefited in their pursuit of new product design and product enhancements from NI’s extensive history in the manufacture of munitions metal components along with an in-depth understanding of the interface between the component , its end-use and the platform in which it is used NI has also been instrumental in successfully assisting the customers in developing detailed specification and technical data requirements while the products were either in R&D or production phase. While our extensive press capacity, ranging from 22 tons to 6000 tons can deep draw, forge, and extrude aluminum, brass, and steel, these presses can also be used to forge powder metals and hard alloys. NI also applies various techniques to test metal and chemical interactions and processes in metal alloy manufacturing strengths, tolerances. A range of other characteristics are continually tested for quality and precision as well as to explore opportunities for improvement of product and process. We use advanced and emerging quality technologies along with traditional measuring tools and gauges to ensure every part meets all requirements. With proven technical capability to build complex configurations with precise tolerances in high volume and available infrastructure, NI Industries welcomes the opportunity to position our customers on the leading edge of their product design and development. Government Contracting As a defense contractor for over 50 years, NI Industries, Inc. prides itself on having a thorough working knowledge of the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FARs, DFARs, etc.) related to defense procurement. Throughout the years, NI has worked with numerous government agencies and other civilian contractors in achieving contracting excellence by ensuring compliance and adherence to applicable regulations while finding ways to work with our customers and suppliers to streamline the entire procurement and contracting process. Staffed with professionals in various disciplines, NI welcomes the opportunity to partner with small businesses, especially those doing business with the Department of Defense, in successfully navigating through the complex acquisition policies and procedures. Quality System NI Industries, Inc. Quality System has been developed to meet and exceed Government requirement, utilizing the ISO9000 Quality Program to achieve these goals. The Quality System has evolved from a MIL-Q-9858A system to its current certified ISO9001:2000 system. NI can assist small businesses in the following areas: Internal audits for compliance assessment Preliminary assessments for readiness to obtain ISO certification Assistance in developing various documentation including Business Procedures, Work Instructions, Rework Instructions, Quality Detailed Plans, SPC Detailed Plan, and Process Bulletins Application of Military Sampling Plans in manufacturing environment Use of statistical techniques such as p-charts, run charts, and capabilities studies.
NI Industries also has Testing and Calibration Labs which can provide small businesses with 1st Article inspection results, gage calibration, mechanical testing, and environmental testing (e.g. salt spray). Facility Management NI Industries, Inc. has a vast and proven experience in facility management including plant operations and maintenance services, property and equipment management, security, and environmental services. NI Industries has been under contract with the US Government to operate and manage the 170-acre Riverbank Army Ammunition Plant in Riverbank, CA since 1951 and has also operated a like manufacturing facility in Los Angeles, CA since 1945. Much of the success in the operation of these plants has been attributed to NI’s knowledgeable professional and maintenance staff in their thorough understanding of the built environment and the business process that has been instituted to ensure optimal integration of the people and their work place. NI is committed to providing a safe and functional environment with cost effective operation and maintenance services to ensure that the facilities and the ancillary systems are operating properly for building occupants to conduct their primary activities without unnecessary interruptions. Environmental Management and Services NI Industries, Inc. has an excellent record of maintaining compliance with federal, state and local environmental laws, statutes, regulations and permits applicable to the facility. In addition to all regulations applicable to the private sector, NI also maintains compliance with Executive Orders and mandated Department of Defense requirements applicable to federal facilities.
